What Will Happen on December 21, 2012

The financial world is in a state of meltdown, and none of us know if, let alone when, it will recover.

Robert Kiyosaki predicted it, if you’ve read the “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” series, but he wasn’t the first.
The Mayan prophecies of 2012 don’t really bear much resemblance to the movie of the same name.  Although I don’t speak Mayan, I’ve been researching sources as close as I can come, and the big takeaway is that 2012 is the end of their ‘Great Cycle’.

Last time they had a smaller ‘year cycle’ come to an end, it was the end of their world. They were invaded by the Spanish, who devastated them with SmallPox, which they had no resistance for, as much as wiping them out through military means.  Charles-Étienne Brasseur de Bourbourg, a specialist in MesoAmerican cultures, first drew the ‘Pole Shift’ conclusion about their calendar in 1872, also linking other theoretical cataclysms to such shifts (like Atlantis – which he believed to have been the origin of the Mayan culture – and the lost continent of Mu). Also not speaking French, I can’t vouch for what evidence he gave for the dates of these shifts, although he linked the Mayans and Egyptians through having common cosmologies and pantheons, drawing the conclusion that they had a common lineage from Atlantis.  (There isn’t much left of Mayan literature, despite their having written language, since a Spanish Cleric Diego de Landa had most of it burned while he was working there to spread Catholicism)

The theory of 2012 is that it’s a time when the Earth, the Sun, the Dark Rift and the Galactic Equator align.  Many of the theories floating around have been given lots of modern interpretation, so it’s hard to know what’s true, but one thing that is clear is that according to the Mayan Calendar, it will form the end of a fourth age and the beginning of a new one, (having had 3 failed attempts at mankind before) and there ARE Mayan references to events AFTER that date.  The cataclysmic interpretations appear to be modern.

However, since we appear to be experiencing a global shift in consciousness towards acknowledging our power to create reality, that doesn’t mean we aren’t actually imbuing the date with enough power that such cataclysms might well happen.

Reading through the prophecies, we stand at the brink of a time of massive change, and it seems to be normal part of the process that this will be preceded by what can, if you’re determined to be alarmist, be called ‘destruction’.  Think “knock-down, rebuild” on a global scale.  You can’t really do too much rebuilding if you haven’t cleared the old stuff first.

Our “old stuff” is the materialistic, industrialist world we created.  The one millions on millions of us daily wish to get rid of as we grumble about jobs, work and the lack of meaning in our lives.  Again, (my interpretation) if we’re coming into power over the material world, could this time of crisis be a response to our own pleas for a different life?

We take the opportunity every December 31 to make resolutions and try to ‘destroy’ old, bad habits.  The Mayan calendar is coming up for a New Year on their long calendar.  If enough people worldwide give this enough weight as a time when everything old is cleared away to create a new society, it’s entirely possible that we, not the Mayans, could bring about the very hyped up events everybody seems to be predicting.

After all, it took less than 50 years of movies about disasters being beamed into the homes of only those with TVs before we started seeing the current escalation of natural disasters on a more frequent scale.
